KHABAROVSK, February 26, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - After taking part in the opening ceremony of the Chita-Khabarovsk highway, President Vladimir Putin visited an indoor ice arena that was recently built in Khabarovsk (the center of the Khabarovsk Territory in the Far East).

The new arena has 7,000 seats.

When the president arrived, there was a young hockey players training session in progress.

The children presented a hockey stick with signatures of all the players to the president. Mr. Putin signed the club's hockey jersey.

Then the president visited the Square of Glory Memorial, which is a black and red granite eight meter wall with the names of the nearly 38,000 inhabitants of the Khabarovsk Territory who did not return from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) inscribed on it.

The memorial, which has an eternal flame, was opened on May 9, 1985, on the 40th anniversary of the victory.
