RUSSIAN OMBUDSMAN SPEAKS AGAINST RESTRICTING FELLOW CITIZENS' RIGHT TO JURY TRIAL

MOSCOW, February 25 (RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Lukin, human rights commissioner in the Russian Federation, speaks against restricting the constitutional right of citizens to jury trial, when the criminal case contains information that is state secret.

"The state's constitutional task to ensure the observance of citizens' constitutional rights, including to jury trial, must be realized in full," says Mr. Lukin's statement received by RIA Novosti Wednesday.

The idea to restrict the citizens' right to jury trial, if the criminal case contains state secret information has been actively discussed lately by mass media.
