BAKU, February 25, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Gerai Dadashev). British MP Terry Davis, the rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the Nagorny Karabakh conflict, has arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan's capital, on Wednesday.

The purpose of the visit is to prepare a report on the Karabakh conflict by the PACE fall session.

Terry Davis is to meet with Azerbaijan's President Ilkham Aliyev, Azeri political leaders and members of the Azeri delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Heads of the Council of Europe come out for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict. Armenia and Azerbaijan assumed relevant obligations as preliminary conditions of their ascension to the Council of Europe. However, attempts of the OSCE Minsk group to bring the conflict sides to the conference table have yielded no results because the self-proclaimed Republic of Nagorny Karabakh does not give up its claims to act as an independent party in the peaceful negotiations. Baku is resolutely against it.
