TWO-THIRDS OF RUSSIAN SCHOOLS WILL BE CONNECTED TO INTERNET BY LATE 2005

MOSCOW, February 25 (RIA Novosti correspondent Galina Baryshnikova) - By the end of 2005 two-thirds of Russian schools will be connected to the Internet, Russian acting Education Minister Vladimir Filippov said on Tuesday.

According to him, overall connection to the Internet will be realized in 15-20 regions selected on a competitive basis. In 2003 computers and multimedia equipment will be supplied to all school libraries in 2003, he added.

Today all village schools have about 30 modern electronic educational projects, which are not available in many town schools, the acting education minister said.

The computerization of village schools will continue in 2003, Filippov noted.
