MAKHACHKALA, February 25 (RIA Novosti correspondent Dekabr Beibutov) - Ramazan Istambulov, the criminal who killed three local policemen on February 13, was eliminated in Dagestan (Chechnya's neighbor).
The operation on his detention was carried out at 5 a.m. today, Dagestan's Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti. He was hiding in his house in Khasavyurt's outskirts. The criminal put up armed resistance and was killed by return fire.
Istambulov was wanted by the police for the murder committed last December. Two weeks ago the police tracked him down but the first attempt to arrest him was a failure. The bandit opened fire, killing three and wounding five policemen. Istambulov escaped but soon he reappeared in his house.
Three policemen, including two officers, were wounded in today's operation.
