RUSSIA IS READY TO COOPERATE WITH ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THE SIX-SIDED NEGOTIATIONS, THE RUSSIAN DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER SAYS

BEIJING, February 25, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready for "a constructive cooperation with all participants in the negotiation process" concerning the DPRK nuclear programme and will do everything possible for achieving positive results in settling the crisis on the Korean Peninsula,Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said on Wednesday. He heads the Russian delegation at the regional six-sided negotiations in Beijing.

According to him, the main aim is "to ensure security and co-operation on the Korean Peninsula, free of nuclear weapons." The negotiations are also attended by DPRK Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Gie Gwang, his South Korean counterpart Lee Soo-hyuck, US Under Secretary of State James Kelly, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka.

The first round of the six-sided negotiations took place in Beijing on August 27-29, 2003.
