MOSCOW, February 24th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Alexandra Chebanu) - The decree to dismiss the Russian government is a serious political move on the part of Putin, President of the Politika Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"The government's dismissal came as a surprise because it was due to take place after the presidential polls. Today's move by the president has shifted the chronological framework of the cabinet's dismissal," said Nikonov.

However, the government's dismissal will help "fuel public interest in both the election campaign and the elections on the whole," stressed Nikonov.

Besides, the political scientist sees the dismissal of the government as an original political move that will fill the election campaign with political meaning and lend it positive dynamics.

President Putin dismissed the government on Tuesday. Viktor Khristenko has been named as temporary replacement for Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov.
