NAZRAN, February 22, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent) - A militant has been killed in Ingushetia (a republic in the North Caucasus bordering on Chechnya), the republic's Interior Ministry reported on Sunday.
"Yesterday at about 3 pm Moscow time Ingushetia's criminal police and security service were carrying out a special operation to detain an active member of an illegal armed formation, Madayev, a citizen of Grozny", the agency's interlocutor said.
According to him, when the police tried to detained him, Madayev started shooting and was killed by retaliatory fire.
Searching the scene of the accident the police found out that Madayev had on him a Makarov pistol with destroyed number and two self-made grenades.
