MOSCOW, February 20th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia's security can undoubtedly be guaranteed for a long historical prospect, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said at the inauguration of the National Hospital for Veterans named after Georgy Zhukov (1896-1974, marshal of the Soviet Union, admitted Nazi Germany's capitulation on May 8th, 1945).

"We know for sure that we can provide Russia's security for a long historical prospect. I can assure you of this," Ivanov said assessing the results of the recent strategic command and staff exercises where new strategic complexes were tested.

"These are up-to-date weapons not only for Russia, but for the entire world. We have carried out practical experiments which proved that our preliminary calculations can bring specific results in terms of supersonic capability and manoeuvring in course and at altitude," said the defence minister.

"The goal for which this training was held has been achieved for the first time in 20 years. Although there were some flaws, we did not conceal them, we spoke about them and will continue to do so," said Ivanov.
