Moscow, February 20, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Olesya Schegolkova). "Soon the United Nations will offer Palestinians and Israelis to conduct a football match", said Adolph Ogi, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Sport and Development, in Moscow on Friday.

Addressing the students of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a report "Sport as an instrument for social and economic development of society and peace-keeping activities", Mr. Ogi said that a number of physical culture schools are going to be opened in Ramallah and Ierihon next week. There young Palestinians and Israelis will have football training. "In the near future we will be able to organize a football match between them", added Mr. Ogi.

According to Mr. Ogi, there simply won't be any time for such a great number of military conflicts when the whole world plays football, hockey and volleyball. "Certainly we do not expect Israel and Palestine to stop fighting immediately. But I'm sure that we will achieve this goal in a decade thanks to our sporting activities".

This isn't the first time when the United Nations Organization is trying to organize football matches between countries with difficult relationship. - 0 - (MAN/SM)
