SAMARA TO SEND TO BAGHDAD BOOKS FOR IRAQI STUDENTS STUDYING RUSSIAN

SAMARA, February 20 (RIA Novosti) - Books for Iraqi students studying the Russian language will be sent from Samara (Volga area) to Baghdad on Friday, reported the Samara Union of Progressive Youth.

Since October 2003, the organization has been collecting books for the Russian language and literature faculty of Baghdad University. The university suffered during the hostilities.

The campaign was backed by Russia's Foreign Ministry, the government of the Samara region, and regional branches of the Journalists' Union of Russia.

About a thousand books have been gathered within several months. Residents of Samara, the region's biggest libraries and Samara State University took part in the action.

On Friday, the books will be dispatched to Moscow to be further transported to Iraq by Russia's Foreign Ministry.
