GAZPROM RESUMES GAS SUPPLIES TO BELARUS

MOSCOW, February 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Russian company Gazprom has resumed gas supplies to Belarus after the signing of the contract between Beltransgaz and the Russian independent supplier Trans Nafta on Thursday.

Trans Nafta signed the contract with the Belarussian company Beltransgaz on the supplies of 640 million cubic meters of gas to Belarus at the price of 46.68 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters in February. This volume will be sufficient to Belarus for ten days.

The previous contract on the supplies of 360 million cubic meters of gas to Belarus was signed by Beltransgaz and Trans Nafta on February 12. After the contract expired, Belarus started unauthorized pumping of Russian gas transited via its territory to third countries. Therefore, on February 18 Gazprom had to stop Russian gas supplies to Belarus and its transit via Belarussian territory.
