MOSCOW, February 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The Russian air force has met all the goals set in a strategic command-and-staff drill, recently held in the north of Russia.

Yuri Baluevski, first deputy chief of the general staff of the Russian Air Force, said this at the press conference in Moscow on Thursday.

"Actually every kind of aviation was involved - fighters, bombers and long-range aviation," he said.

The Tu-95 and Tu-160 long-range bombers made almost two dozen flights, launching aircraft-based cruise missiles and fulfilling the missions set them.

The personnel's flying time over these two days amounted to the 130-140 hours, Baluevski said.

During the drill time, the Space Troops monitored both space and the launches of strategic missiles, he stressed.

"The Space Troops were in operation during all the drill flights, specifically in launching the Topol missile, and kept watch on all the goals," Baluevski said.
