BRAZIL, February 19, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir Stepanov) - Russia and Brazil are approaching the idea of a long-term and serious technological cooperation. This opinion was expressed by Deputy Chairman of the Russian government Boris Alyoshin, in commenting on the results of his meetings and negotiations with Brazilian Vice President Jose Alnecar, Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and Minister of Industry, Development and Foreign Trade Luiz Fernando Furlan.

"In the sphere of space we never proposed such deep cooperation projects as joint development not only of a Brazilian rocket carrier but also the creation in the future of a satellite platform, the orbiting of satellites and the development of a new rocket carrier capable of putting in orbit a good payload," underscored Boris Alyoshin.

"This means that we are discussing today such approaches that can cardinally change not only the relations between Russia and Brazil, but also create a new model of international cooperation," the Russian Vice Premier said.

In his opinion, "all these delicate and complicated questions have to be discussed in all echelons of power and will be prepared for the meeting between the Brazilian Vice President and the Russian Prime Minister approximately in May in Moscow." "All prerequisites exist today to approach such a deep level of cooperation," Boris Alyoshin believes. "Brazil is a country with ambitions and is very well fitted out with up-to-date equipment." According to him, with the help of high technological Brazilian companies it will be not difficult for us to adapt our achievement which are sometimes difficult to develop alone." "This attention to Brazil does not show that we are not satisfied with our cooperation with Europe or the United States. In this case I have in mind a weight category which is very close to the Russian one in all the parameters of the development model," the Deputy Chairman of the Russian government thinks.

Boris Alyoshin is the chairman of the Russian part of the inter-government commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation at the negotiations in the Brazilian capital from February 18 to 20.
