BRASILIA, February 18, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir Stepanov) -- Russia and Brasilia have all possibilities to expand bilateral cooperation, Russian Vice Premier Boris Alyoshin said on Wednesday at the meeting of the Russian-Brazilian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic and scientific-technical cooperation.

"Our cooperation in the spheres of aviation, space, nuclear energy, biotechnologies and agriculture is marked out for brilliant future," Alyoshin stressed.

The purpose of the commission is to consolidate bilateral economic relations, he added. According to him, economy opens way to Russian-Brazilian rapprochement, mutual understanding and business development.

"Strategic relations with Russia are highly important for Brazil," said Brazilian First Deputy Foreign Minister Pineiro Gimaraes, the co-chairman of the Russian-Brazilian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic and scientific-technical cooperation.

The commission will end its work on February 20.
