PRESIDENTIAL TERM OF OFFICE NOT TO CHANGE

MOSCOW, February 18 (RIANovosti). State Duma (the Lower Chamber of the Parliament) refused to prolong the term of presidency.

On Wednesday State Duma deputies turned down the draft law On the Amendment to the RF Constitution on the Change of the Presidential Term of Office in the first reading. The draft law proposed by the Legislative Assembly of the Ivanov's region stipulates prolongation of the presidential term of office from 4 to 7 years.

The parliament's resolution was not a surprise, as both the President and the leader of the pro-presidential United Russia Duma faction Boris Gryzlov have repeatedly come out against this initiative.
