MOSCOW, February 17th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Viktoria Prikhodko) - State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov deems it premature to put the Chechen interior ministry in charge of the anti-terrorist operation, as suggested by Chechen President Akhmad Kadyrov.

The anti-terrorist HQ in the North Caucasus deals with a larger number of problems than just Chechen issues, Gryzlov explained to journalists on Tuesday.

The HQ's authority does not envisage that some of its functions be transferred to the Chechen interior ministry.

At present, the counter-terrorist operation in Chechnya is supervised by the Russian interior ministry.
