MOSCOW, February 13 (RIA Novosti) - American journalist Rebecca Santana who was considered missing in the North Caucasus has been found in Chechnya. She simply violated the rules of foreign correspondents' stay in the area, the information department of the Russian president quoted law-enforcers as saying.

Rebecca Santana of the Cox Newspapers agency did not notify either the US embassy in Moscow or Russian departments responsible for security of foreign journalists in the North Caucasus about her trip from North Ossetia to Chechnya. According to the Kremlin spokesman, she thereby violated the rules.

In this connection, the Russian president's information department draws the attention of foreign media accredited in the Russian foreign ministry and the president's information department, "to how inadmissible these actions are." They "can have tragic consequences, in particular, kidnapping for ransom," said a Kremlin spokesman.

He asserted that the Russian president's information department was ready to continue offering maximal support to foreign journalists in arranging trips to the Chechen republic, after relevant applications have been received.
