GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT EARLY SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM OF TRANSIT OF CARGOES TO KALININGRAD

MOSCCOW, February 12. (RIA Novosti). Head of the German Foreign Ministry Joschka Fischer hopes that Russia will be able to solve the issue of transit of cargoes to Kaliningrad very soon.

At a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Thursday night he expressed satisfaction by the fact that Russia and the European Union had "managed to find a positive solution to the problem of the passenger transit to Kaliningrad." "I hope that the problem of transit of cargoes will also soon find a positive solution," Joschka Fischer said.

According to him, Berlin hopes for boosting cooperation with the Kaliningrad Region after the new members will accede to the EU on May 1.

In the opinion of the German Foreign Minister, "relations between Russia and Germany are good". He recalled that the decision to open the Consulate-General's Office in Kaliningrad was a result of accords reached at the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder last fall in Yekaterinburg.
