MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 12, 2004. ( RIA NOVOSTI). Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the country's competitiveness should become the national idea.

"We should be competitive in all - a man, industry, population, the country should be competitive," he said answering the questions put by his authorized representatives.

Russia faces a serious choice, Putin said. "Various countries, regions of the world are energetically developing. If we do not remember our history of 1,000 years, think about the accumulated natural wealth and rest on one's laurels, we will fall into decay," the president said.

"Russia should be a competitive country," he declared.
