MOSCOW, February 12 (RIA Novosti) - Florence Day will be held for the first time today in the All-Russian State Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow. The organizers of the event said it is being held to pay tribute to one of the world's legendary cities and it reflects developing relations between Moscow and Florence. Last year Moscow and Florence signed a memorandum on cooperation in the sphere of culture, education and economy.

Today's event was initiated by the Florentine Society, which was created in September 2001 in Moscow.

On the program of the Florence Day is an exposition of paintings with views of Italy's most beautiful city and the presentation of two books. "3,000 Years of the Doctrine of Division of Powers," written by Director of the Moscow Florentine Society Pyotr Barenboim is about the 15th century Republic of Florence. Muscovites will also be able to get acquainted with a new edition of "Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri.
