    4TH SERGEI PROKOFYEV INTERNATIONAL PIANISTS COMPETITION OPENS IN ST. PETERSBURG

    ST. PETERSBURG, February 12 (RIA Novosti correspondent Anna Novak) - The 4th Sergei Prokofyev International Competition of Pianists opens today in the Grand Hall of the Academic Philharmonia in St. Petersburg.

    The organizing committee of the competition reported that 33 pianists (16-30 years old) from Russia, Belarus, South Korea, Great Britain, China, Ukraine, France, Japan and Bulgaria will take part in the competition.

    The winners of the previous Sergei Prokofyev competitions of pianists will open the competition. The participants will take part in three selection rounds. Their skill will be assessed by music teachers and pianists from Finland, France, Germany, Japan and Italy.

    The winners of the competition will receive prize money. In addition, the winner of grand prize gets a solo concert in Paris.

    The names of winners will be made public on February 22. The gala concert of the winners will be held on February 23.

    The competition was founded in 1991 to coincide with the Prokofyev's 100th birthday. It is held once every four years.
