RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMES UN DECISION TO SEND COMMISSION TO ASSESS POSSIBILITY OF ELECTIONS IN IRAQ

MOSCOW, February 11, 2004. (RIA Novosti). Russia welcomes the decision of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to send a UN commission to Iraq to assess the possibility to hold elections in this country, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said following the talks with his Jordanian counterpart Marwan Muasher on Wednesday.

"We shall discuss further steps on the Iraqi elections on the results of this commission's activities," Ivanov said.

According to Marwan Muasher, Russia and Jordan come out for the soonest accomplishment of Iraq's occupation.
