MOSCOW, February 11, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Police have dropped the search for presidential candidate Ivan Rybkin, who mysteriously disappeared several days ago, and closed the case, Kirill Mazurin, chief of the information and public relations department of Moscow's main interior department, told reporters on Wednesday.

"Moscow police have not yet met Mr Rybkin or his wife, but will do it in the near future," said the police spokesman.

Mr Rybkin returned to Moscow from Kiev on Tuesday night.

When asked whether Mr Rybkin would undergo medical examination as he had reportedly been given some psychothropic pills, Mr Mazurin said the prosecutor's office had not issued relative instructions.

Mr Rybkin mysteriously disappeared on February 5. His wife called the police on Sunday. The Moscow criminal police, prosecutor's office and the Federal Security Service were engaged in the search effort.
