MOSCOW, February 11, 2004. (RIA Novosti). Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov will hold talks with his Jordanian counterpart Marwan Muasher on Wednesday. Spokesman for the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti that the sides would focus on the ways to overcome the crisis situation in the Middle East.

"Russia and Jordan proceed from the need to begin, without delay, the realization of the "Road Map" plan of settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which has no alternative. Only coordinated and consolidated efforts of the sides concerned, being made on the basis of this document, and the effective help of four international intermediaries - Russia, USA, EU and UN - can ensure the stabilization of the situation and resumption of the negotiating process," he said.

Igor Ivanov and Marwan Muasher will discuss the development of the situation in Iraq. "Our countries consistently come out for the earliest possible restoration of sovereignty and preservation of the territorial integrity of Iraq," Alexander Yakovenko stressed.

The sides will also discuss other issues of international and regional policy, and the state and prospects of the Russian-Jordanian relations.

The intensification of the trade and economic cooperation and participation of Russian companies in the realization of the development projects in Jordan are the most important tasks in this sphere," the diplomat said.

The working visit of the foreign minister of the Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan to Russia will last till February 12.
