MAKHACHKALA, February 10, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent Dekabr Beibutov/ - Chechen terrorist Ruslan Gelayev is most probably killed, prosecutor of Dagestan (a republic in the North Caucasus) Imam Yaraliyev has announced.

According to him, Gelayev headed a gang that came to Dagestan last December. This was proved by the investigation, the prosecutor pointed out. Investigators suppose that Gelayev is among 7-8 militants whose bodies remain under the fallen avalanche. "This will be checked at the end of April or the beginning of May, when the snow starts melting on the anti-terrorist operation site," Yaraliyev pointed out.

On December 15, 2003, Gelayev's gang tried to get to Georgia via Dagestan and was eradicated in a special operation.

According to prosecutor, the police have detained recently other militants from the gang, and now their number is eight. All of them are Chechens, one is originally from Dagestan. Charges have been brought against all of them.
