RUSSIA-NATO: FINE COOPERATION PROSPECTS, SAYS DEFENSE MINISTER

MUNICH, FEBRUARY 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and NATO are sure to go on with positive contacts, no matter that NATO has changed its top, Sergei Ivanov, Russia's Defense Minister, said at his maiden routine conference with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, newly appointed NATO Secretary General.

They met immediately after Mr. Ivanov arrived in Munich for a 40th international security and defense conference.

Russia-NATO contacts within the framework of The Twenty will further acquire constructive practical content, with practice-oriented planning, and will go on with the cause launched by Lord George Robertson, previous NATO Secretary General, Mr. Ivanov said assuredly.

Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, in his turn, expressed the hope for further constructive Russia-NATO team efforts. He is determined to carry on Lord Robertson's good contacts with Russia.
