MOSCOW, February 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Azerbaijan appreciates and values its relations with Russia, Azeri President Ilkham Aliyev said on Friday.

"I pinned great hopes on this visit, and these hopes are justified," he said, noting that all talks he held in Moscow were successful.

At a meeting with State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov, Aliyev expressed condolences to Russians in the wake of the tragedy in the Moscow subway. "This tragedy is a heavy burden on everybody - on Russia's nationals and friends," said the Azeri president.

"The evil of international terrorism must be eradicated through joint efforts," Aliyev said.

Speaking about Russian-Azeri relations, Aliyev said bilateral political ties are on the highest level ever now for all the history of the two states' relations. "It can be said with confidence that our good-neighborly relations can be an example for imitation," the Azeri president said.
