MOSCOW, February 6 (RIA Novosti correspondent Yelena Glushakova) - Russian President Vladimir Putin handed to his Azeri counterpart Ilkham Aliyev the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called conferred on his father and predecessor Heidar Aliyev.

Russia's highest award was conferred on Heidar Aliyev as a recognition of his "particular contribution into the consolidation of good and confidential relations between our peoples," the Russian leader said.

His guest spoke about the recent progress in our relations. "This basis was founded by Heidar Aliyev and Vladimir Putin's efforts," the Azeri president noted.
