MOSCOW, February 6, 2004 /RIA Novosti/ - Russia wants its companies to take part in privatization tenders for Azerbaijan's electricity facilities, Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov told journalists on Friday.

Russia's electricity exports to Azerbaijan are growing, he said. Recently Baku decided to partially privatize its generating capacities and distribution systems.

"Russian companies are ready to participate in the process," the minister pointed out.

He also drew attention to the project to transport electricity from northern Iran to Russia and back via Azerbaijan.

"Russia is interested in the project, and talks on the issue are being held at an expert level," Yusufov said.
