MOSCOW, February 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Combined efforts alone can defeat terrorism, this plague of the 21st century, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday at a meeting with his Azeri counterpart, Ilkham Aliyev, who is paying an official visit to Moscow.

"I have no doubt that by acting together both on a bilateral basis in the Caucasus and on the international arena, we will be a success," the Russian leader told the president of Azerbaijan.

"I am certain our countries' law-enforcement bodies will maintain efficient co-operation against terrorism," said President Putin.

The anti-terrorist effort will be prominent on the two countries' co-operation agenda, he said.

President Aliyev expressed condolences over the terrorist act perpetrated in the Moscow metro this morning.
