30 KILLED AND 30 INJURED BY EXPLOSION IN MOSCOW METRO

MOSCOW, February 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - 30 people were killed and some 30 hospitalized as a result of the explosion in the Moscow metro, Deputy Interior Minister Aleksander Chekalin disclosed to journalists.

According to him, the explosion occurred near the front sliding doors of the train's second car on route from the "Avtozavodskaya" to "Paveletskaya" metro stations. The train was some 300 meters away from the "Avtozavodskaya" metro station.

According to Chekalin, Head of the Moscow Department of Interior Affairs General Vladimir Pronin ordered to put into action reinforced security control by police of the Moscow metro stations and trains as well as of the Moscow suburban trains.
