ZHIRINOVSKY: MOSCOW METRO EXPLOSION AIMED TO DESTABILIZE SITUATION IN WAKE OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

MOSCOW, February 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - An explosion in the Moscow metro on Friday has worsened the situation in Russia before the presidential elections, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the vice-speaker of the State Duma, told journalist Friday morning.

Mr. Zhirinovsky supports strengthening street patrols.

Law enforcement agencies need to have more power to establish order, he said.

"Those, who are suspected of terrorist activity, must be removed from the capital," Mr. Zhirinovsky said.
