MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 6, 2004, /RIA-NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT/ -- Metropolitan police are now tightening security at local subway stations, a municipal law-enforcement officer told RIA-NOVOSTI.
Additional police details are being posted at Moscow's subway stations, RIA-NOVOSTI's interlocutor noted.
These measures are being implemented in connection with today's subway blast, he said.
The blast occurred at 8.45 a.m. here today inside a subway-train car between the Paveletskaya and Avtozavodskaya stations. A major fifth-category fire erupted right after the explosion.
According to preliminary reports, 22 people were killed and over 30 wounded, reports the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
