MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 6, 2004, /RIA-NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT/ -- A subway-train car, which exploded in Moscow at 8.45 a.m., was subsequently engulfed by a major fifth-category blaze, RIA-NOVOSTI learned from local law-enforcement agencies here today.
Talking to RIA-NOVOSTI some time before, officials at the Moscow civil-defense and emergency-situations department noted that a subway car had exploded, while the train was moving the Zamoskvoretskaya line from Paveletskaya station to Avtozavodskaya station.
According to preliminary reports, some people were killed and wounded as a result.
Ambulances continue to arrive at the scene, RIA-NOVOSTI correspondent reports.
Three rescue squads are working at the site of the blast.
