GROZNY, February 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russian interior ministry officers and the military commandant's office servicemen thwarted a major act of terrorism in the outskirts of Urus Martan, Chechen law enforcers told RIA Novosti Thursday.
"A powerful explosive device consisting of two artillery shells, a jet engine from a shot to the Grad system, a fuse and a detonator, was ready to explode," said the source.
Combat engineers blew up the bomb in a nearby ravine.
Besides, in the republic's Shali district, near Chiri Yurt, policemen discovered a large cache of militants in a destroyed building.
"The cache contained a flame thrower, three hand antitank grenade launchers, six mortar mines and a homemade explosive device," said the source.
