TURKISH MERCENARY DESTROYED IN CHECHNYA

MOSCOW, February 4, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - A foreign mercenary was destroyed in Chechnya by special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff on February 2nd, a high-ranking official at the Russian Ministry of Defence reported on Wednesday.

"The hireling had a Turkish passport with visas issued by Pakistan and Georgia," the source said.

According to the interlocutor, the documents will be presented before journalists in Moscow in the near future. The demonstration of this kind already took place last year, after a gang of foreign mercenaries was destroyed in Daghestan (a North-Caucasian republic of the Russian Federation), the source was quoted as saying.
