MOSCOW AND BAKU PLAN INKING PAPERS ON STRONGER STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 4. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- Russia and Azerbaijan plan concluding a package of documents on further strengthening of their strategic partnership, Alexander Yakovenko, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, has said on Wednesday. It is also planned, he said, to sign documents appreciably broadening the legal basis for the development and improvement of bilateral relations.

To Yakovenko, the two countries have already concluded 87 intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman has called Azerbaijan "an important partner of Russia in the Caucasus" and the intensive political contacts "a good tradition" in bilateral relations. A special importance, he said, is attached to the maintenance and deepening of the political dialogue at the high and top levels.

As reported before, the new president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliev, will arrive at Moscow on a visit.
