MOSCOW, February 4th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia is interested in the privatisation of Azerbaijan's electric power facilities, Russian Power Minister Igor Yusufov told journalists on Wednesday.

"Russia's Unified Energy Systems is interested in acquiring both power generating and network facilities," he specified. "We are only waiting for a legal basis to be established for such decisions in Azerbaijan," he stressed.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan is very attractive to Russia in this respect because "its dynamically developing economy confirms that the country's need in electric power will be only increasing." Besides, "our energy systems operate in accordance with common technological standards and use the same equipment," said Yusufov.

The minister recalled that Russia was in relevant negotiations with Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia and Central Asian nations.
