ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER: NO FUTURE FOR EUROPE WITHOUT COOPERATION WITH RUSSIA

MOSCOW, February 4, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini has confirmed that Rome is ready to work on annulling the visa regime. He spoke about it at the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin on Wednesday.

"We are trying in every way to ensure a free travel for all citizens of the world. I am sure that we shall continue to work for simplifying and finally annulling the visa regime," said the Italian Foreign Minister, having in view more complicated movement of the Russians along a number of the European countries in view of the expansion of the European Union and the involvement of the new EU members into the Schengen Agreement.

According to the minister, Italy believes that there is no future for Europe without constant cooperation with Russia.
