WASHINGTON, February 4, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Arkady Orlov) -- Moscow mayor Yury Luzhkov, who is staying in the USA on a working visit, told journalists in Washington that the US government in the person of the US Housing and Urban Development Department is interested in giving expert assistance in building new high-rise dwelling houses in Moscow.

On Tuesday the Moscow mayor met with acting Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson.

According to Luzhkov, it is planned to build 60 new 47-60-storey dwelling houses in Moscow. The city government would like to take the US experience into account "so that we would not repeat the errors of the early period of the construction of high-rise buildings" and could "take the most up-to-date" in these technologies, the Mayor said.

He also said that the US Housing and Urban Development Secretary would soon arrive in Moscow on a visit, and the talks concerning the current issue would be continued.

On Wednesday Yury Luzhkov will meet with mayor of Washington Anthony Williams, and on Thursday - with New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.

On Tuesday night the head of the Moscow government also participated in the presentation of the American edition of his book "Resumption of History. Mankind in the 21th Century and Russia's Future" at the US Library of Congress.
