MOSCOW, February 3, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- On Tuesday, the Council of the State Duma (lower house of the Russian parliament) will examine the issue of the representation of Russian deputies in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Russia and Belarus (PAU).

Proposals to allot 17 of the 24 seats in the Parliamentary Assembly to the United Russia party (which gathered over 37% of the vote in the December 7 Duma elections), 3 - to the KPRF (slightly over 14%) and 2 - to the Rodina bloc (9%) and the LDPR (slightly over 12 %), each will be submitted for discussion by the Council members, the PAU press-service reported.

The decision of the Council will make it possible to go over to the personal formation of the deputation of the State Duma in the Parliamentary Assembly and hold the next, 24th PAU session.

Under the law "On the Status of a Deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Russia and Belarus", a deputy of the Parliamentary Assembly is a member of the parliament of the Union member-state, who is part of the deputation delegated to the PAU by the respective parliament.

The parliaments of the Union members-states delegate representatives to the Parliamentary Assembly and recall them in accordance with their regulations.
