FORTALEZA (Brazil), February 3 (RIA Novosti correspondent Vladimir Stepanov) - The Moscow Conservatory will open a music school in Fortaleza, Brazil (the administrative center of the Ceara State). The management of the Moscow Conservatory and the administration of Ceara signed a protocol on their intentions on Monday.

Under this document, work on the school will begin in March when a group of architects presents their design of the future school. The construction of the school and the transfer of didactic materials will start in the middle of the year.

In 2005 the school will be staffed with teachers and equipped with musical instruments. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance in November 2005, and the first academic year will start in February 2006.

Rector of the Moscow Conservatory Alexander Sokolov told RIA Novosti in an exclusive interview that he expects 400-450 pupils to attend the school. Teachers from the Moscow Conservatory will teach them.

"The idea is to found a ten year school like the Russian children's school of the Moscow Conservatory," said Mr. Sokolov. "Its graduates will be able to continue their professional education at the Moscow Conservatory." According to Mr. Sokolov, the experience of training musicians in the Moscow Conservatory is unique. "We see an important political moment in spreading this experience all over the world, because the musicians, trained by us, will in their turn help spreading traditions of the Russian music school."
