MOSCOW, February 2, 2004. (RIA Novosti). The Pension Fund of Russia has refuted allegations published by some mass media which ascribe proposals on raising pension age by eight years to head of Russian Pension Fund Mikhail Zurabov.

"I'm authorized to state that such allegations have nothing to do with the real position of the Pension Fund and its head," advisor to the chairman of the Pension Fund Vladimir Vyunitsky said.

Mikhail Zurabov and the Pension Fund have been and remain consistent opponents of raising pension age because it will give a small effect economically and is highly unpopular, from the social point of view," Vyunitsky said in a report which RIA Novosti received from the Pension Fund.
