BAKU/MOSCOW, FEBRUARY 2. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan can present an example of relations between neighbouring states, as well as between large and small nations, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliev said in a RIA Novosti interview before visiting Russia.

"On the political plane, we have settled practically all questions stockpiled over years - a status for the Caspian sea, regional and other questions", he said. "Russia has abandoned a unilateral approach in settling the Nagorny-Karabakh conflict /between Azerbaijan and Armenia/, which is also a very positive fact".

As regards economic relations, Ilham Aliev said that only four to five years ago it was hard to imagine that Azeri oil would be transported through Russian ports.

"We are receiving large amounts of natural gas from Russia. Russian companies are increasing their investments in Azerbaijan. Trade turnover between our countries is increasing at a very high rate", Aliev said.

This has become a possibility thanks to the political will of our countries, he said. "We gain from this both economically and politically. Our peoples are more and more being brought closer together. This is why I set a very high store of by the level of our relations and only wish them to go on developing in this way", Ilham Aliev said.
