WASHINGTON, JANUARY 30, 2004. (RIA NOVOSTI CORRESPONDENT ARKADY ORLOV). The Russian and American scientists began jointly developing a new miniature device-sensor which will allow to find traces of combat poisoning substances or explosives, said chairman of the Senate foreign affairs committee, Republican senator Richard Lugar.

He welcomed the joint Russian-American project in his written statement and stressed that equipment for disclosing chemical weapons is an important instrument in combating terrorism.

The draft is being developed at the Perdew university (Indiana) and the Institute of Energy Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

It is expected that the new device will be based on the technologies used in modern mass spectrographers.

Eighty thousand dollars have been already allocated in the USA for the realisation of this project.
