PUTIN GREETS RUSSIAN INTERRELIGIOUS COUNCIL ON JUBILEE

MOSCOW, JANUARY 29 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia's Interreligious Council had a gala session today, on its 5th establishment anniversary. Federal President Vladimir Putin forwarded a congratulatory message to the gathering on the occasion, reports the Kremlin press service.

The message says, in part:

"Since it was established, your highly influential organization has made an honorable contribution to the cause of preserving and augmenting traditional spiritual values, which have developed into part and parcel of the cultural heritage we all share. The Council has earned profound respect with its role in the progress of dialogue between religions, in strengthening peace between religions and confessions, and promotion of public accord and understanding.

"In this connection, I approve the Council initiative to make Moscow venue of a 2nd Interreligious Peacemaking Forum."
