MOSCOW, January 29th, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Chairman of the foreign church relations department of the Moscow patriarchy, Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad has rebutted some media reports alleging that the Russian Orthodox Church received oil quotas from Saddam Hussein.

"This is nonsense. Nothing of the kind happened and could not happen in principle," the metropolitan said at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday.

"I intend to study the sources of this information and reasons behind it," said the metropolitan.

He ironically remarked that according to the circulated report, the company at issue has a very bizarre composition: the Communist Party, the LDPR and the Russian Orthodox Church who have received oil quotas.
