MOSCOW, January 29, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russia is concerned about Ukraine's actions on the deepening of the canal between the Tuzla Island and the shore of Russia's Krasnodar Territory in the Kerch Strait, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Viktor Kalyuzhny said it on Thursday at the 17th round of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations on the legal status of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait and on the division of the water space in the Black Sea.

"All this creates problems for navigation in the canal. We should discuss this misunderstanding and remove the problem," Kalyuzhny stressed.

He hopes that this round of the negotiations will be productive.

The negotiations will concern the drafting of agreements on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait in the sphere of navigation, fishing and environment protection, and approaches to the status of the Azov-Kerch water area, including delimitation in the Sea of Azov, a source in the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti.
