MOSCOW, JANUARY 26. /RIA NOVOSTI / -- Opening up a meeting on Tuesday with the learned council under the Russian Foreign Ministry, the United States' Secretary of State Colin Powell said that he was interested to hear the opinions of Russian political scientists.

He also said that he was going to share his assessments of international and regional matters with Russian experts.

I could have given a lecture on foreign policy but would like you to talk to me, he said. I would like you not just to listen to what a foreign visitor says. I would like to hear what you think I can say to your colleagues in Washington, said Powell.

Opening the meeting, Russia Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov voiced satisfaction over its having taken place. "We are very glad that the meeting has taken place despite our more than six hours of talks today", said Igor Ivanov.

To him, the meeting gives American State Secretary Colin Powell an opportunity to meet people who have an active impact on the foreign policy and public life of Russia.

Sergei Rogov, director of the U.S. and Canada Studies Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said in a RIA Novosti interview that such a meeting with top figures in the American administration is a new form of dialogue between the two statescountries.
